Spring Puck Surprise Winners Meet Jason Chimera

(Caps Outsider)

The Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation held their annual Spring Puck Surprise Tuesday as the Caps took on the New York Islanders at Verizon Center.  MSE supports the charitable efforts of the Capitals (Caps Care), Mystics and Wizards throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Ted Leonsis is the founder, chairman, majority owner and CEO of Monumental Sports and Entertainment.

For $40, fans had the opportunity to purchase a hockey puck wrapped up with yummy Hershey’s Kisses. Pucks were limited to three per fan. All but five pucks were signed by one of the Caps players. The big surprise was that five fans unknowingly purchased unsigned pucks. Those lucky fans got the opportunity to meet Caps left wing Jason Chimera and he personally signed their pucks after the game.

This year’s Fall Puck Surprise winners were Michelle Livingston (Manassas, VA), Shawn Mead (Frederick, MD), Deborah Wasson (Fredericksburg, VA), Jill Hupp-Polla (Fredericksburg, VA) and Liz Arky (Washington, D.C.).

When asked why he wanted to be a part of the Spring Puck Surprise, Chimera said, “The fans are the reason why we play the game.  Our organization holds many events like this for the fans.  It’s pretty simple to sign a puck for a good cause.”

The 2015  Fall Puck Surprise campaign raised $18,000.  All proceeds benefit various Caps charities through the MSE Foundation.

This year the campaign is on track to raise another $18,000.  The fans that purchased the pucks got a cool piece of Caps memorabilia while making a donation to a good cause.
