In a game that will give the coaches plenty of video to analyze, the Capitals fell to the Rangers, 3-2, on Sunday in Game 3 of the first round match. The series is still led 2-1 by Washington, with Game 4 on Wednesday in New York. South Park gives us a theme for today’s box score, which you can enlarge by clicking. Before and throughout every Caps game, the Game Entertainment folks provide fans with an awesome soundtrack that not only pumps the excitement in the air, but as Bruce Boudreau would describe it, ‘f@#$ing hits you in the face.’ Okay, I doubt Boudreau cares about the music but it’s clear that the sound of these tunes, the videos on the big screen, the flashing lights and the Washington Capitals skating out rattles the hell out of the Verizon Center crowd. There was a time when we learned that there’s no such thing as a bad question. I disagree. In journalism, it’s one thing to ask a question to gain knowledge or to get a quote, but it’s another to ask a leading question, then argue because you didn’t get the answer you were looking for. It was more grind-it-out hockey at Verizon Center on Friday, as the Capitals defeated the Rangers, 2-0, to take a 2-0 series lead in the first round of the playoffs. The Capitals played their trap defense in Wednesday’s 2-1 overtime victory against the Rangers, giving them a 1-0 series lead in the first round of the playoffs. But let’s hope for a few 3-1 games in the coming week because Alex Ovechkin scoring a goal as if he’s angrily stuffing a turkey takes just as much energy to watch as to do (I presume). Normally before a Playoff game, we like to get some shots of the crazy fans. We’ll get to that later in this series, but today I decided to go with a different angle, and focus on the atmosphere being created by the team. From the fan fest activities outside, to Red Rockers handing out towels to fans as they entered, it was obvious that this was no regular season game :

As an added bonus for VIP level ticket holders (First 2 rows, Acela Ledge, etc.) the Capitals held a Pregame Happy Hour this evening. The spread was setup outside of the Coaches Club in the underbelly of the Verizon Center, and I was able to snap a few shots before the fans arrived. In addition to food, beer, wine and soda, there were also some members of the Capitals Alumni available to sign autographs.
