This November, Capitals Outsider is joining the global fight against Men’s Cancers known as Movember. For the un-initiated, it means that we’ll be growing mustaches (mo) and raising money and awareness of Men’s Cancers. Here is the official word from Movember.com, summarized in this video :

Who Is Hotter? Russian or American Women?

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

We all know what Alex Ovechkin told GQ: Russian girls are hot, American girls aren’t. “Why do you think that is, that when an American goes to Russia for a week, he stays for two extra weeks? Girls! And when a Russian goes to America for a week, he leaves in five days.” But I’m not breaking any news here – that goes to GQ, and Russian Machine Never Breaks, Reliable Source, and D.C. Steinbog for making it an issue. But I’ll let Caps fans have a voice here and say whether or not you agree with Ovie. (Personally, I [...]

Fighting With… Alan May

AUTHOR: | IN: Fight | COMMENTS: None Yet

Before he became the very knowledgeable CSN Washington post-game commentator, Alan May was a ultimate fighter hockey player in Washington from 1989-1994, where he amassed an astounding 1189 penalty minutes in only 345 regular-season games. May retired from professional hockey in 1999, but is now one of the most credible voices on the Caps in Washington media (you know, considering he actually played). When he came back to Washington last season, I was hoping he’d have a tough guy mentality on the air, like when Jesse “The Body” Ventura did analysis for WWF, but May takes his hockey and analysis [...]

Celebrating a Semin Hat Trick

AUTHOR: | IN: Recap | COMMENTS: None Yet

Using his stick like a magic wand, Alex Semin dazzled the Verizon Center crowd Saturday by netting the first three Washington goals, and uncharacteristically stuck around the locker room for a postgame interview (translated by Russian reporter Slava Malamud). “I was just trying to get my stick on the puck and make sure it winds up in the net. How many times can you try to get around guys? I was just trying not to think about it and just {shoot} it.” (Also uncharacteristically, Alex Ovechkin did not stick around the locker room after the game. Nick Backstrom came out, [...]

Fun at the Capitals Street Festival

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Capitals fans may have been a bit slow to filter into Verizon Center for Saturday’s game against Atlanta as they stayed outside to enjoy the family-friendly Capitals Street Festival sponsored by Capital One. Kids and adults alike participated in activities such as face painting, dancing with the Red Rockers, and testing their slap shot speed and shot accuracy. Rumor has it that longtime Cap Peter Bondra, Wizard John Wall, and Mystic Marissa Coleman made an appearance, not to mention Capital One’s mascot for those of you who’ve been dying to get a photo taken with him (He’s either a viking [...]

Broomball at the Verizon Center

AUTHOR: | IN: Video | COMMENTS: None Yet

I find that the locker-room can be a sullen place after a loss like the Capitals suffered tonight. So rather then battle beat reporters looking for some quotes to fill their story, I decided instead to stick around the ice in anticipation of post-game festivities. I caught wind via Twitter that Boston University and UMass Amherst would be battling in an epic Broomball match after the Capitals vs. Bruins game, and I wasn’t about to miss that. Sadly this was a friendly competition amongst Alumni associations, instead of a sanctioned Division I NCAA competition. The Capitals host events like this [...]
