Ten Years Ago, the Caps Picked…

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the Capitals look for a bright future in more young Russians, it’s sometimes interesting to take a look back to see which other players the Capitals once believed in. So we backtrack ten years, when the Caps were beating up on Southeast Division opponents but losing in the playoffs to the Penguins. Uh… The Capitals selected Brian Sutherby in the first round at #26. Despite only scoring 26 goals, he lasted eight years in DC and Portland before being traded to Anaheim. In the second round (43rd), the Caps also had faith in Matt Pettinger, who scored twice as [...]

Jose’s Time in Washington

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s been two great seasons in Washington for Jose Theodore, who told The Washington Post that he won’t be returning to the Capitals this coming season shortly after winning the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy on Wednesday in Las Vegas. Theodore had a good run in Washington during the past two regular seasons, but with Semyon Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth playing behind him, if not in before him, and the team in need of some cap space, the move doesn’t come as a surprise. Here’s how Theodore performed as a Cap. Year GP MIN W L T OTL EGA GA GAA [...]

Rest in Peace, Manute Bol

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Caps fans in the 1980s occasionally tuned in to watch the dreadful Washington Bullets, not because they thought they’d win, but because 7’7″ Sudan native Manute Bol swatted shots out of the Capital Centre. Manute died Saturday at the age of 47. In the fall of 2002, Manute signed a one-day contract with the Indianapolis Ice of the Central Hockey League. He couldn’t skate, but the publicity helped to raise money for Sudan. More photos after the jump.

Caps Reruns on Comcast

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s summertime, and that means Comcast SportsNet is airing reruns of Capitals games. Tonight, it’s the Caps-Penguins game from March 24, 2010 (I won’t spoil the result for those who haven’t seen it yet). I tend not to watch reruns of sports because I already know the result and it’s not exactly must-see television, but summertime is different because there’s nothing but baseball on, and who wants to watch that? Also this week: Thursday: Atlanta Thrashers at Washington Capitals From April 9, 2010. Friday: Montreal Canadiens at Washington Capitals From April 17, 2010. I can think of a few other [...]

I spotted this at the Stephen Strasburg game last week, as the guy was sitting in the same row with me. There were a noticeable number of fans wearing Capitals gear at the game, including a guy in front of me wearing a Varlamov sweater.

Should the Caps Keep Theodore?

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the Washington Post reports, goaltender Jose Theodore may be done in Washington. So we ask, should the Capitals keep him? Should the Caps pick up a veteran goaltender or stick with Semyon Varlamov and use Michal Neuvirth as a backup? What do you think?
