Tom Wilson Reaches 30-Goal Mark in Win

The Washington Capitals continued to be appointment TV in the NHL, as they took care of the Detroit Red Wings by the score of 4-1 for their 22nd win at home this season.

The Caps struck first almost midway through the opening period, as Dylan Strome shot the puck from the blue line past Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek. Strome also recorded an assist later in the contest.

The score was tied at 1-1 heading into the third period when Washington scored three goals, thanks to Pierre-Luc Dubois, Tom Wilson, and Connor McMIchael.

Dubois hit the 60-point mark for the third time in four years, while Aliaksei Protas also reached the 60-point mark with an assist on Dubois’s goal.

Wilson reached the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career, as he and Alex Ovechkin are the first pair of Capitals teammates to each reach the 30-goal mark in the same season since 2016-17 (Ovechkin/T.J. Oshie).

Ovechkin is only eight goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky, but he did not score on Tuesday evening. He did, however, get an assist on the McMichael tally.
