The Washington Capitals made several offseason moves, with two of the biggest were bringing in former third overall pick Pierre-Luc Dubois and goaltender Logan Thompson. Both moves have been a smashing success and the two set career highs in Monday’s 5-4 win over the Ottawa Senators.
Dubois set a new career high with his 37th assist in 61 games. Dubois has found chemistry with wingers Tom Wilson and Connor McMichael, both of whom have scored a career high in goals.
“He’s been outstanding for us. Consistency,” Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said of Dubois. “Playing hard minutes every night, and chipping in offensively…he’s been excellent all year.”
Thompson, who was brought in from the Vegas Golden Knights after the Caps traded Darcy Kuemper to acquire Dubois, earned his career high 26th win over the season.
Dubois reached the mark as part of a three point night. He was credited with an assist on Connor McMichael‘s game opening tally. McMichael found a loose puck at the side of the net, and did just enough to put it past Linus Ullmark.

Dubois then extended the lead with a shot between his legs off a beautiful play from McMichael. All of a sudden, the Caps were up two less than four minutes into the game.

Dubois would tally his second assist on the power pay as he found a wide open Wilson.
“It’s easy playing with him and Willy,” McMichael said. “He makes things easy on me and always in the right spot.

The goal gave the Caps a 3-0 lead, but the game was far from over. The Senators battled back to tie the game, before the teams traded third period tallies. Thompson was under siege most of the night, especially when the Capitals were short handed, where he stopped 18 of 20 shots. Overall, he stopped 33 of 37, plus all three shootout attempts.

The Caps have all but cinched the Metropolitan Division and have their eyes set on a deep playoff run. To do that, they’ll need both Dubois and Thompson to keep playing at a high level.
