It’s 1990s Night and Caps Fans Got Fanny Packs!

(Caps Outsider)

Fans at the Capitals/Islanders game on Thursday were treated to a Washington Capitals fanny pack, presented by Monumental Sports and Entertainment.

I haven’t yet figured how this meshes with the Capital One Arena’s ‘no bag’ policy, but on this night, at least, wearing a hip-hugging sack in dark blue with a Capitals logo for 1990s night is socially acceptable again.

While hyping up 1990s night, one of the Caps’ in-arena hosts, Annie Mae, made it clear that she was born in 1998, but was in the spirit of things anyway, while host Mike Ploger reminisced about Blockbuster Video. Then they played Smashing Pumpkins, a band I saw in 1996 at the old Capital Center.

The Capitals had a 90s-themed introduction with that ‘Everywhere You Look’ song from Fuller House, featuring Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Sonny Milano, and Darcy Kuemper.

If you didn’t get a fanny pack, check Ebay. But I’m fairly certain the prices have adjusted for inflation since the 90s.
