Brett “Stretch” Leonhardt, who became a cult hero a couple years back when he had the chance to suit up as a backup goaltender for the first period of a game, is leaving the Capitals.

In honor of Alexander Semin’s new contract, here’s one of the best drawings of him that I’ve ever seen. It comes from reader Que-ink, who draws hockey players on the site Tegaki.

Going to a Caps game is hardly a full night out, particularly on the weekend. With games starting around 7, and regularly ending around 9:30, not everyone is in a hurry to jump on a crowded metro train when there is so much going on in Chinatown. So, where to go?

Well, it wasn’t 7-0 this time, and we were treated to boring hockey for two periods while the Caps nursed a lead. Then we saw a fluky goal go in, which actually sparked the Caps to try. Then we saw both goalies look awful in the shootout, all resulting in a 2-1 victory for the Rangers. Worst part: The 7:30 start took a half hour from my day. Click on the image for a larger view.

Tonight the Capitals take on the Rangers from Verizon center, looking to rid themselves of the bitter taste from their last meeting.

Our dear reader, MKPanda78 got creative with a Capitals beer koozie, using it to dress up this figurine who is holding up a broken hockey stick and playing with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Caps defenseman Scott Hannan, of Richmond, BC, is 32 today.
