The Kiss Seen Around the World
Tonight, AHL call-up Andrew Gordon scored his first NHL goal, opening the scoring of the Capitals’ 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. It came off a great feed from rookie center Marcus Johansson. There was the normal exuberant celebration, but Gordon felt a higher level of gratitude for his pivot, so he added something you don’t see in hockey very often: A kiss on the cheek. Video below. Here is the goal. Not a bad way to show your coach you want an extended stay with the big club. …and the celebratory kiss follows after the jump.
Matt Bradley vs. Adam McQuaid
From Russian Machine Never Breaks, it’s video of Matt Bradley fighting Adam McQuaid in Saturday’s loss to the Bruins. (We typically grab this from HockeyFights.com, but Ian was RIGHT THERE. Very impressive.)

Hunter Is Complex.com’s 25th Dirtiest Athlete
Complex.com put together a wonderful list of the top 50 dirtiest athletes of all time. Hockey players are well represented, and it is no surprise to see longtime Washington Capitals captain Dale Hunter on the list. Caps fans can read this proudly, and at this point, wonder how the team would be doing if #32 was playing second line center (you know, because THAT’S what the Caps need right now). Check out Hunter’s spot here, but it’s well worth clicking through the entire article.
Don’t Forget Your Alumni Game Tickets
Tickets for the Alumni Game at the Winter Classic go on sale this morning at 10:00 AM, and I’m all ready to purchase mine. They are supposed to be available for $25 from TicketMaster, so you know what that means ; FEES. Expect to pay $38.50 per ticket, or $13.50 in fees. That is more than a 50% charge from Ticketmaster for the convenience of their monopoly. Ridiculous. For more details on the game and the Caps’ underpowered lineup, check On Frozen Blog.
Capitals React to HBO’s 24/7
By now, most of you have seen it, and HBO’s 24/7 premier last night was certainly compelling television. I, like many fans, wish the story had started at a better point of the season for this team, but at least they aren’t hiding. It’s admirable the way the organization has remained open, despite the current struggles. Ultimately I still think the entire experience and exposure is good for the league, and for the team. So what did the coach and players think of their big debut?
Film Your Friends With the Capitals Flip Video
Just in time for Christmas, you can now show your team spirit on Cisco’s Flip Video. Though there is one available for every NHL team, you’ll only want the Capitals one (you know, because you’re a Caps fan). The Flip continues to be the most affordable and convenient solution to filming your friends and family as they sit around the television watching Caps games. For journalists and bloggers, it’s also great for recording player interviews and press conferences. As a reporter, having used the Flip Video for the past few seasons to film the Caps, I’ve found there’s really no [...]
Capitals 2011 Fan Calendar Available
A 2011 fan-made calendar is now available at the Verizon Center on game days. Produced by the Washington Capitals Fan Club, the calendar has a different flavor to it than others, as it gives an up-close and personal look at the team. The Fan Club tables are located at sections 115 and 418. The proceeds of the $10 go to charity, and the calendar is dedicated to the memory of Brian St. Louis, the Director of Youth Hockey at the Kettler Iceplex who tragically passed away a few months ago.
