Caps Outsider Roundtable: Round 2

Brandon Alter

Caps vs. Hurricanes is a second round series that was predictable back in January. It will be a close, physical series where one or two bounces can decide the series. Injuries will be a big factor. Martin Fehervary’s puck-moving skills and skating ability will be a big loss as the Caps try to beat the Carolina forecheck. On the other side, if Frederik Andersen misses several games of the series, the Caps will need to capitalize. In the end, I think Carolina is a better team and their depth will out score the Caps depth and decide the series. Carolina in 7

Even though the Caps beat the Canadiens in five games, the series was anything but easy, and the Hurricanes in round 2 will be even more difficult. I envision a blood-bath, with plenty of hard-hits, fights, and more knocked-out teeth. I predict every game will be like this and the series will last seven games. In the end, I still believe the Capitals have a slight edge, just enough to win that final game and move on. Caps in 7

Capitals-Hurricanes should make for a very competitive series. Thanks to a healthy Logan Thompson (for the most part), the Caps were able to advance past the Habs in 5. However, the Hurricanes have a highly-powered offense featuring players like Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Seth Jarvis. Luckily, the Caps have Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, Tom Wilson, etc. as difference-makers on the ice. Both teams split the season series, with the home team winning all four games. That just shows that we could be in for one exciting second round series. But with the way this season has gone, I’m confident. Caps in 7
