Caps Release Promotional Schedule (Finally!)

Last year’s Puck Surprise (Caps Outsider)

It took a while, but the Washington Capitals have finally released their 2014-15 promotional schedule.

And once again, November is Movember, which encourages men to grow a mustache in order to raise awareness for men’s health. The Capitals players themselves are expected to participate, and Caps Outsider will be covering that, as always.

Also in November is the Fall Puck Surprise on the 14th (Caps vs. Devils) and the NBC 4 Food 4 Families Drive on the 22nd (Caps vs. Sabres). The Fall Puck Surprise features pucks signed by players and wrapped with candy, which are then sold when the doors open at the Verizon Center.  NBC 4 Food 4 Families is a food drive that collects money and non-perishable food items so that families in need can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

There is a Hockey Fights Cancer night, complete with jersey auction, on Oct. 29 when the Capitals play the Detroit Red Wings.

On Dec. 2 (Caps vs. Canucks), the Capitals launch their 2014 Caps Canine Calendars. In fact, they just shot the photos for those on Friday.  These calendars go on sale for $20 and all of the money made will go to Homeward Trails.

Other events in December include the Toy Drive presented by GEICO on Dec. 13 (Caps vs. Lightning), and Slapshot Santa on Dec. 22 (Caps vs. Senators), when the Capitals’ beloved mascot will don a Santa costume.

There will be a puck surprise Jan. 12 (Caps vs. Avalanche), and fans attending the Capitals vs Oilers game on Jan. 20 will receive an Alex Ovechkin bobblehead presented by Verizon (read more about those here).

Early spring sees many auctions for fans.  Feb. 21 (Caps vs Islanders) is the Caps Better Halves Gift Basket Auction, March 5 (Caps vs Wild) is Military Night during which the Capitals will hold a military jersey auction, and on March 15 (Caps vs Bruins), the team will have a St. Patrick’s Day jersey auction.

April ends the regular season with two promotional days.  The first is April 8 (Caps vs Bruins), when the Capitals sell mystery mini helmets.  Each mini helmet, signed by an unknown Capitals player, will be sold for $40.  Five will be marked as winners and fans who receive these will also win an autographed jersey.

The last promotional day is Fan Appreciation Day on April 11 (Caps vs. Rangers).  Fans will feel the appreciation when they receive their beach bag presented by Capital One Bank. The Caps are expected to also hold the Jersey Off the Back ceremony, where a select few are picked to receive a players jersey directly from him.
