Farewell Welcome Back, Vitek Vanecek!

(Caps Outsider)

Not long after losing him in Seattle’s expansion draft, the Caps reacquired goalie Vitek Vanecek a 2023 second round draft pick, which was originally from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Brenden Dillon. So, this basically boils down to the Caps losing Dillon and his cap hit in the expansion draft, after all, though the Caps still have another second rounder after all is said and done.

This is great news for the Caps, who obviously didn’t want to lose Vanecek, as he will again likely be playing a good portion of the games this coming season, assuming nothing crazy happens with Ilya Samsonov.

While these circumstances aren’t exactly the same, the last time the Caps did something like this, they traded away Pheonix Copley to get T.J. Oshie, but got him back later.

The Capitals selected Vanecek with their second-round pick, 39th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft.
