The Caps announced Tuesday that they signed defenseman Brenden Dillon to a four-year contract worth $3.9 million a season.
Dillon, 29, was acquired late last season and proved to be popular in the locker room. While he’ll certainly be playing big minutes for the Caps, he’ll also prove to be a fan favorite in the coming years, as Caps fans have already learned to appreciate his good nature and charitable work, including when he donated 10,000 medical masks . He also got a major positive referral from former Cap Joel Ward, who played with Dillon in San Jose. When Ward came to visit back in February, he had very kind words about Dillon:
“He’s a true pro, he’s an unbelievable human being. I think he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve come across in my hockey days, to be honest with you. He’s just a humble guy who wants to work and learn…”
“Except for when he’s punching Malkin,” Tarik el-Bashir interjected and Ward laughed.
“Yeah, he can battle, but you’re getting an unbelievable human being besides an unbelievable hockey player.”
The news also came after Michal Kempny underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
