Trade Alert: Farewell Christian Djoos! Hello Daniel Sprong!

Monday afternoon, right at the trade deadline, the Capitals traded defenseman Christian Djoos to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Daniel Sprong. Djoos, 25, was acquired by the Capitals in the 7th round of the 2012 NHL entry draft, and was part of the Stanley Cup on 2018. This season, however, he ended up back in Hershey, mainly for salary cap reasons. There he played 42 games with the Hershey Bears, recording 42 points, 5 goals – including the Teddy Bear Toss goal – and 27 assists.

Farewell, Djoos!

Who is Daniel Sprong?

The 22-year-old from Amsterdam was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round, 46th overall, in 2015. Sprong recorded 2 points (1g, 1a) in eight games with the Anaheim Ducks this season and 27 points (11g,16a) in 39 games with the San Diego Gulls. In 104 career AHL games he has 92 points (43g, 49a). Sprong, who is in the final year of his contract, will be reporting to Hershey, before becoming a restricted free agent in July. Welcome to the Washington Capitals Sprong!
