Fight

Caps vs. Bolts Turns Ugly

The Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning have been engaged in a back and forth battle with plenty of hard hitting, power plays, and scoring. After Tampa took a 4-3 lead, Cedric Paquette ran Kempny hard from behind into the boards, and Michal did not appreciate it. He retaliated with a punch to the face, and within moments the scrap escalated to include most of the players on the ice. Unfortunately for the Capitals, that included Jakub Vrana squaring off with Yanni Gourde. Having your 2nd line scorers going up against the 4th line from the opposing team in a fight usually isn’t a great idea, and it ended with a bloody Vrana and an injured Kempny. T.J. Oshie also engaged with Mikhail Sergachev during the scrum. Video of the play and aftermath below:

Vrana is leaking from the face, but should be ok. Kempny, however, will not return to the game after sustaining a lower body injury. We assume Tom Wilson will have something to say before this game ends, although he might not be able to with the Capitals down in an important game. The previous match-up versus Tampa Bay ended in rough style as well. While Paquette is one of the tougher players on the Lightning, he is certainly someone Wilson can handle if given the opportunity.
