Poll: Who was the Biggest Hero of Round 1 for the Caps?

Marcus Johansson was certainly the hero of Game 6. (Caps Outsider)

First, hats off to Toronto. With a number of higher-seeded teams tanking in the first round, including Minnesota and Chicago, the Capitals staved off what could’ve been a franchise-changing loss by defeating the Maple Leafs, 2-1, in overtime of Game 6, for a 4-2 series win.

Routine game-winners in Caps’ playoff games don’t really exist. With every game being decided by inches, or bad bounces, and most in sudden death the one player who ends it could be celebrated for years to come (Joel Ward!). While some Caps did what they normally do in this series, like score goals (Alex Ovechkin), and assist on goals (Nicklas Backstrom), others did so at clutch moments, thus the ‘hero’ or MVP. To recap:

Game 1: Tom Wilson OT winner, Justin Williams (2 goals).

Game 4: Tom Wilson (2 goals) T.J. Oshie (2 goals).

Game 5:  Justin Williams (OT winner). Holtby only gives up one goal.

Game 6: Marcus Johansson (2 goals). Holtby only gives up one goal.
