Alex Ovechkin, Practicing in Those Bazillion Dollar Skates

(Caps Outsider)

For Russian Heritage Night at Verizon Center on Thursday, Caps captain Alex Ovechkin skated out for warmups in Vapor 1X skates, which features designs of Washington’s Capitol Building and Moscow’s St. Basil’s Cathedral.

The design was by shoe artists Nick Avery and Polo Kerber.

Ovechkin will autograph each skate – on the toes – at practice on Friday. They’re being auctioned off by the MSE Foundation on Handbid. The auction ends March 25 during the Caps/Coyotes game. Proceeds will benefit the American Special Hockey Association.

Here are photos of Ovi warming up in them before the Caps/Blue Jackets game.
