Best of Luck, Zach Sanford!

(Caps Outsider)

Monday night, the Caps made arguably the biggest splash of the 2017 NHL Trade Deadline by trading for defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk.  The Caps traded some draft picks, and training camp standout Zach Sanford to acquire Shattenkirk.

Sanford was drafted 61st overall in the 2013 draft by the Caps. After being drafted, he would spend a year with the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL before spending two years at Boston College. He signed an entry level deal this past summer.

Sanford made the team out of camp, struggled, and was sent down to Hershey. In Hershey this season, Sanford had 16 points in 25 games. He was up and down for most of the year.

Sanford had three points for Washington including a massive first career goal that helped the Caps tie the NHL record for consecutive home wins scoring 5+ goals.

After this goal, Sanford was sent down during the Caps bye week and continued to stay hot. After the bye week, he scored his final goal as a Cap in a 2-1 shootout loss to Detroit in the first game after the bye week.

Sanford, we wish you the best in the St. Louis organization.
