Congratulations, Alex Ovechkin, on 1000 Points

(Caps Outsider)

Congratulations to our hero, our favorite athlete in any sport ever, Alex Ovechkin, as he recorded his 1,000th career point. He scored on his first shot of the game against the Penguins on Wednesday, with an assist by Nicklas Backstrom, of course.

The Russian Machine became only the fourth Russian player, behind former teammate Sergei FedorovAlexander Mogilny, and Alexei Kovalev, to record 1,000 career points.

Much of what I wrote last season to celebrate his 500th career goal applies to this accomplishment as well:

For more than eleven years, you’ve given us memorable goals, memorable celebrations, and memorable victories. You inspired folks to become fans, and turned some of us into players. You gave us reason to keep watching. You not only met, but exceeded expectations. And you’re not done yet.

Congratulations, Alex, on your 1000th career point. We love you.

Sincerely,
Caps Fans
