Winter Classic : Fond Memories

Tonight the Capitals defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 and extended their New Years Day winning streak. The Caps haven’t lost a game on New Years since 2007, but to be fair, they lost many games that season. In recent seasons, New Years Day has hosted the Winter Classic, so it felt weird for the Capitals to be contesting this game with a roof over their heads. No franchise has done as well outdoors as the Washington Capitals, who are undefeated at 2-0. As Caps fans, we don’t have memories of our captain hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head, so winning the Winter Classic on two occasions is, sadly, as good as it gets. Fans of other franchises may mock us for it, but we have fond memories of Rocking the Red at Heinz Field, and tossing our seat cushions onto the field at Nats Park. So as we prepare to enjoy the latest installment between the Blues and Blackhawks, we thought we’d look back at some of our Winter Classic coverage from 2011 and 2015.
