South Carolina Stingrays

Stingrays Week 8 Recap: So Fetch

The Lowcountry’s own got into the holiday spirit this weekend, returning to North Charleston to shoot their annual Holiday video. This year’s theme: “Mean Girls.”

John Parker, Rob Flick, Scott Tanski, and Steven McParland re-enacted the Winter Talent Show dance in full hockey gear, right down to the kick of the stereo. In the movie, the repeated word is “frosty,” but the Stingrays version uses “bell” instead. Tanski takes the role of Lindsay Lohan’s character and just keeps singing.

Meanwhile, the South Carolina Stingrays hosted the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for the final two games of a five-game set. The series entered North Charleston Coliseum with the Stingrays leading two games to one.

On Teddy Bear Toss night, the Stingrays fans were dissapointed to see their team score no goals. Greenville’s MacKenzie Skapski stopped all 28 shots he faced in the 2-0 shutout win. Desmond Bergin scored on Adam Carlson early in the third and then again on the empty net for his third and fourth goals of the season.

Stingrays fans threw their bears on the ice after the game, while the Swamp Rabbits hounded Skapski in celebration.

With the series tied at two games each, the final matchup was set for Saturday afternoon. Derek DeBlois, making his roster return, scored twice in the opening period to give the home side a lead they would not relinquish.

Justin DaSilva pulled one back for Greenville, only to be cancelled by Alex Gacek two minutes later.

In the 8-2 win, just four players for Greenville finished at an even rating or better: Ahti Oksanen, Matt Johnson, Paul Zannette, and Justin DaSilva. No South Carolina skater finished with a minus rating.

Kelly Zajac added to his two first period assists with a second period goal, followed shortly by Dylan Margonari on the power play. In the final period, Flick added two goals and Margonari put up another one to seal the win and the series.

Parker Milner made 19 saves on 21 shots for the win. Jeff Malcolm stopped 29 of 37, allowing all eight goals.
