What Do You Get Alex Ovechkin For His Birthday?

(Caps Outsider)

It’s that time of year again, when you can’t help but wonder: what exactly would you get Alex Ovechkin for his birthday? Surely, a man who buys gifts for his teammates doesn’t really need any presents, right? At least, nothing requiring money. Still, it’s never easy trying to decide what to get someone who has almost everything.

Looking back, a popular gift option for Ovi seems to be sheep, as he’s been given one at least twice. But then comes the issue of actually getting it to him – you wouldn’t want to mail the poor animal, would you?

No, it might be better to stay away from living things. But what else is there?

After countless bobbleheads and figurines throughout his career, Funko has given Ovechkin not one but two POP! figures for their NHL collection. Whether or not he has them yet isn’t known, but seeing as they haven’t come out yet, it might be a little late for a birthday gift.

Perhaps some fan art is in order? After all, who wouldn’t enjoy getting art inspired by them?

But what if you’re like me and lack the artistic ability to produce anything worthy of the Great Eight? Sure, we could suck it up and do it anyway… it’s the thought that counts, right? There HAS to be something else! Maybe?

Or maybe there doesn’t.

As Ovechkin approaches his 12th season with the Capitals, there’s been a lot going on for the 31-year-old. He has managed to spend much of his summer out of the spotlight while attending and participating in various sports and non-sports related events, including his own very low key wedding. To top it off, Ovechkin will also be sporting the C for Team Russia in the World Cup of Hockey which officially begins this afternoon. The Russians don’t play until tomorrow, though, giving Ovi the day off for his birthday (don’t expect him to celebrate too hard since he’ll be facing Nicklas Backstrom and Team Sweden in the opening match).

In the end, what more could he ask for? Ovi is his own perfect gift.
