Philipp Grubauer Added to Team Europe for World Cup

(Caps Outsider)

Caps goalie Philipp Grubauer has been added to Team Europe on Tuesday. Grubauer, a native of Germany, is replacing the injured Frederick Anderson. Grubauer backstopped Germany in a recent tournament that granted the Germans a berth in the 2018 Olympics.

In this tournament, Grubauer had two shutouts in three games stopping 64 of 66 shots he faced. He had a tremendous .970 save percentage and a .67 goals against average. He played Japan, Austria and Latvia.

Grubauer was drafted in the fourth round back in 2010. Despite last season being his first full year in the NHL, he is not scared of the big stage. Grubauer has a playoff win in his only apprentice. He backstopped the Caps in game 2 against the Islanders in 2015 to help the Caps even the series.

The other goaltenders for Team Europe include former Capital Jaroslav Halak and Grubauer`s countryman Thomas Greiss.
