The South Carolina Stingrays need forwards heading to the new season, and today they found one. Scott Tanski, a veteran of 271 professional games between the American and East Coast Hockey Leagues, agreed to terms today.

“Scott is a guy who has been this league for a few years now and we’re glad he’s joined us,” said Stingrays’ head coach Ryan Warsofsky. “He brings a lot to the table including leadership.”

“He’s a guy who’s hungry for a championship. We want guys down here in South Carolina who want to win. Talking to him, that was a huge component of him coming here. We’re excited to add him to the mix. He’ll be another leader in that locker room who will be huge for the younger guys.”

Tanski, 26, spent his rookie professional season with the AHL’s Connecticut Whale. He joined the Orlando Solar Bears from 2012-16 when he only played three games before joining the Reading Royals on December 1st. Upon joining his new team, he was named an alternate captain.

“South Carolina has always been one of the top organizations in the league,” Tanski said. Every time I played against the Stingrays it was a battle, so I’m happy to be on the other end of it.”

Tanski featured in eight games of the Royals playoff run, scoring one goal. In his professional career, the Athabasca, Alberta native has 89 points (37 goals, 52 assists).

His excitement to join the Stingrays also comes with his desire to be involved in the Lowcountry community. “I can’t wait to bring it on and off the ice,” Tanski said. “Being part of the community is huge to me. I’m excited to bring some initiatives to South Carolina and do everything in my power to be a big part of the Lowcountry community.”

The Stingrays now have seven forwards and six defenders under contract for the 2016-17 season.
