Mr. Clutch, Joe Devin, Returns to Stingrays

Needing scorers to help round out the roster, South Carolina Stingrays head coach Ryan Warsofsky signed Joe Devin to his third year in the Lowcountry and agreed to terms with Steve McParland out of Providence College.

Devin was one of eight Stingrays given a qualifying offer. McParland played the final four games of the ECHL regular season for the Elmira Jackals.

Devin enderaed himself to Stingrays fans with his uncanny ability to score goals in clutch situations. Two of his 10 playoff goals in 2016 came as series-ending goals, one in double overtime against the Adirondack Thunder. More drama came in 2015 with his triple-overtime goal against the Toledo Walleye to send the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup Final.

“As we’ve seen, he leads by example and works hard night in and night out. Guys see how bad he wants to win and how bad he wants to score goals. That’s contagious,” Warsofsky said.

McParland spent four seasons at Providence, winning the NCAA Championship with the Friars in 2015. He scored six goals and seven assists during that Championship year and was +1 in the Championship Game against Boston University.

The Schrieber, Ontario native made his professional debut with Elmira on an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) after his Senior season concluded. He finished the year with one goal and two assists as the Jackals fell short of a playoff spot.

“I think the sky is the limit for Steven McParland,” said Warsofsky. “We are really excited to add him. He is a strong, quick skater, and someone who is responsible and good on the penalty kill,” Warsofsky said.

The South Carolina Stingrays now have two scoring threats to help round out Warsofsky’s roster.
