Hershey Bears Announce Pre-Season Games and Guaranteed Home Dates

(Scott Payonk)

Well, Bears fans we didn’t have to wait long for news on the 2016-2017 season. Earlier today the Hershey Bears President/General Manager Doug Yingst released dates for two pre-season games and six guaranteed home games.

Coming off the loss in the Calder Cup Finals to the Lake Erie Monsters, this news was just want fans needed to jumpstart the excitement for the 2016-2017 season.

According to a Bears press release earlier today, October 8th and 9th the Bears will play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a home-and-home pre-season series. Saturday, October 8th is scheduled to be at WBS with a follow up on Sunday, October 9th in Hershey.

To say this is exciting is an understatement because this rivalry is one of the biggest in the AHL. Considering both teams met in the playoffs with Hershey taking the series in seven games, there is no doubt the Penguins will come in hungry to get some payback on the Bears. Given the fireworks that took place during the series, most notably those between Hershey’s Liam O’Brien and WBS Tom Sestito, there is always a possibility that things may erupt even before the start of the regular season.

Although these games don’t have any regular season impact, you can bet that both teams will be trying to get a leg up heading into the season. With that being said, fans will not want to miss either of these pre-season contests in early October.

The Bears have also released dates for six guaranteed home games. These dates are as follows:

  • Saturday, October 22nd
  • Saturday, October 29th
  • Saturday, November 5th
  • Friday, November 18th
  • Sunday, December 18th
  • Friday, March 17th

The remainder of the Bears regular season schedule and times will be released at a later date.

Get ready Bears fans, it will soon be time to Defend the Den once again!
