Penguins Power Past Bears in OT

All three goals in Game 4 between the Hershey Bears and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins came via the power play. Kael Mouillierat scored in the overtime to win the game 2-1 and even the series at two games a piece.

Tristan Jarry started his first game of the Calder Cup Playoffs, replacing rookie Casey DeSmith for the Penguins and getting 22 saves on the night. Justin Peters tended the blue paint for Hershey, saving 28 of 30 shots including 14 alone in the third period.

Game 5 will return the series to GIANT Center on Wednesday before Game 6 goes back to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

The penalties came as expected for the teams. The chaos began before the game began when Tom Sestito cross checked Liam O’Brien at center ice. As Jakub Vrana came in to break them up, Sestito then checked Mike Moore, a healthy scratch in the game. The full rosters convened at center ice; no penalties came as a result of this skirmish.

A scoreless first and third sandwiched the only two goals in regulation. The Penguins would score first off of a Tom Kostopoulos redirection. With Will O’Neill at the top of the circle and Kostopoulos at the net front, Bears defender Tyler Lewington elected to defend O’Neill. The pass was too much to handle, leading to the easy redirection goal.

Carter Camper returned the favor for Hershey on their fourth man-advantage of the night. Chris Bourque got the first whack at the rebound off of a Nathan Walker shot, but Jarry made another save. Camper went for the third-chance opportunity and that was then saved. On a fourth rebound, Camper buried it for the tying goal.

The Bears shot a total of two shots on goal in the final twenty minutes. At the very end of the third, Steve Oleksy and Garrett Mitchell were assessed minors to start the overtime four-on-four.

Madison Bowey took a holding penalty 33 seconds into the overtime, trapping the Bears in a four-on-three. After the matching minors ended,  Sestito threw a puck at Peters. He made the save, but a diving Mouillierat swatted the puck behind Peters for the victory.

The Bears and Penguins both went 1-1 on their home ice in the opening four games, with the home team winning the second game of the set.
