Celebrating a T.J. Oshie Hat Trick

(Caps Outsider)

Caps forward T.J. Oshie scored the overtime game-winner Thursday, which was his third goal of the game in the Caps’ 4-3 victory in Game 1 against Pittsburgh.

It was the eighth playoff hat trick in Caps history, and the first since Nick Backstrom had one against Montreal in 2010. It was also the Caps’ third playoff hat trick against Pittsburgh. The others were by Alex Ovechkin in 2009 and Dino Ciccarelli in 19922

Oshie now has four goals in seven playoff games this season – plus three assists – which is already a career high. He never managed more than three points in a playoff series while he was with St. Louis. Even stranger – the Blues never even won a playoff game when he scored a goal.

It was Oshie’s third career hat trick, his last one coming on Jan. 3, 2015 against San Jose, while he was with the Blues.
