Justin Williams Gets a Hat Trick

Caps right winger Justin Williams got his first hat trick as a Cap Sunday in a 5-2 victory against the Rangers at Verizon Center.  Williams completed the hat trick with an empty net goal with less than 2 minutes left in the game.  The 85 ft. wrist shot added to the Caps lead and thrilled the home crowd as hats flew from the stands and onto the ice.

Williams commented after the game, “My first hat trick was Carolina against Tampa Bay.  It was a long time ago.”

By a long time, he meant it was his first since Oct. 16, 2006.

He laughed about Sunday’s hat trick. “Considering I didn’t score on a goalie for one, Kuzy gave me a backdoor goal and another was a tip in.  It’s been pretty easy to play with line mates like that.”

Williams and the Caps play Tuesday January 19 against the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
