Charleston Strong: Stingrays Debut Opening Night Sweaters

In another gesture of community solitude and goodwill, the South Carolina Stingrays will wear special “Charelston Strong” jerseys on Opening Night, October 17th, against the Reading Royals. The jersey features the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on both sides below the Stigrays logo. Mother Emmanuel AME Church, the site of the massacre this past June where 12 people were murdered, will be on the shoulder patches.

The Stingrays play in the North Charleston Coliseum, located about 10 miles from the church. Donations will be collected throughout the evening and the jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. All proceeds will benefit the children and families of those impacted by this tragedy.

“This special night will give our fans and our organization an opportunity to rally around an event that has impacted many lives” Stingrays team President Rob Concannon said in a statement on the team’s website. “The community has always been important to the South Carolina Stingrays organization and we’d like to show our love and support to the families of Mother Emmanuel AME Church.”
