Fans not at Fan Fest (Caps Outsider)
The Washington Capitals announced the dates for their 2015-2016 development camp and Fan Fest, which will by held on Saturday, July 11 at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va. It is the culminating activity to the week long Caps development camp that runs from July 7-11.
As in past years, the entire Caps development camp is open to the public with a scrimmage scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at 10:30 am. The popularity of the development camp has grown exponentially in the past several years to the point of being standing room only for the scrimmage. The event gives fans the opportunity to see top Caps prospects and enjoy some really good hockey. Fans will also have the chance to meet and get autographs from the Caps coaching staff and new prospects, attend the team’s annual equipment sale, and participate in a free open skate. The Caps’ mascot, Slapshot, and members of the Red Rockers Spirit Squad will also be on hand at Fan Fest to pump up the fun.
You never know who you’ll see at the development camp. According to the Capitals, attendees include Capitals prospects under contract and recent Capitals draft picks who have not been signed yet. In addition, several undrafted and free agent amateur players will be in attendance. The full roster of players, including invitees, will be available on the first day of camp.
Notably, Fan Fest 2013-2014 yielded a fine crop of talented players. Several are now quite familiar names to all fans. Caps forwards Tom Wilson and Andre Burakovsky, and defensemen Connor Carrick and Nate Schmidt were all participants in that development camp. Burakovsky also participated in the 2014-2015 camp.
