Stingrays Take 2-1 Series Lead Heading Home

via the Stingrays

With Jeff Jakaitis‘s 39 saves, Wayne Simpson‘s three points (1 G, 2 A), and Andrew Rowe‘s two goals, the Stingrays rolled to a 4-1 victory at the Allen Event Center to retake the Kelly Cup series lead, 2-1.

Jakaitis stood on his head all night, making highlight reel save after highlight reel save. Americans goalie Riley Gill allowed three goals on 27 shots. Gill was pulled for the sixth attacker, but it would be for naught as Simpson would score for his 36th point of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Wayne Simpson is now the sole record holder for most playoff points in the ECHL.

It’s a shame that the Allen media did not select Simpson for one of the three stars. The lone goal scorer for Allen, Chris Crane, took Third Star honors while Jakaitis took Second and Rowe took First.

In a game plagued by skirmishes and penalties, Simpson’s offensive prowess should be commended. Each team had 20 PIM once the snow settled. The Stingrays now have three straight games on their home ice, the first of which will be Sunday at 7:05 ET.
