Young Fan Wanted Backstrom Bobblehead, Meets Him Instead

(Caps Outsider)

All 13-year-old Wyatt Ketch wanted was a Nicklas Backstrom bobblehead. So the Burt, N.Y. hockey fan joined the Caps Kids Club, who mailed him his goodie bag. There was no bobblehead in the package, but instead, there was a voucher to pick it up at Verizon Center.

So, Wyatt and his dad took a road trip, driving more than 400 miles to watch the Caps beat the Bruins, 3-0, on Wednesday.

It also happened to be ‘Mystery Helmet’ night (read more about that here), where fans could purchase an autographed mini-helmet, with proceeds going to charity. Of 465 helmets sold, only five were grand prize winners. The grand prize? Meeting Backstrom after the game.

Ketch, of course, was one of the lucky winners, and waited anxiously after the game to meet the Caps’ all-time assist leader, who happened to have two more against the Bruins.

So, what started out as a trip to pick up a bobblehead ultimately turned into actually meeting the actual player. Congrats, Wyatt!
