‘Mystery Helmet’ Winners Meet Nicklas Backstrom

(Photos by Caps Outsider)

With two assists in a 3-0 win Wednesday, Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom had plenty to be happy about, as did five lucky fans who got to meet him afterward.

For fan appreciation week, the Caps sold autographed ‘mystery’ mini-helmets, five of which weren’t signed by anyone. Whoever got an unsigned mini-helmet got to meet Backstrom following the game. The $18,630 raised went to the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.

The winners:

  1. Justin Popek, 9, from Montgomery Village, Md.
  2. Ken Meyers from Germantown, Md.
  3. Wyatt Ketch, 13, from Burt, NY (more to come on this – it’s a great story.)
  4. Brandy Walko from Swanpoint Md.
  5. Michelle Bowen from Prince Frederick, Md.

Bowen actually picked two winners of the 465 helmets and gave one to her friend. Caps Outsider encouraged her to play the lottery.

Backstrom, meanwhile, was extremely nice, signed many autographs and posed for photos.
