Backstrom (Caps Outsider)
With two assists in Saturday’s 6-1 win, Nicklas Backstrom tied Michal Pivonka for first all time on the Capitals assist list with 418. Alex Ovechkin, meanwhile, added an assist for his 417th, one behind each of them.
Backstrom tied Pivonka in only his 562nd game, 263 fewer games than Pivonka. That’s more than three full seasons.
Looking forward to that record-breaking assist. If there’s any justice, it will come on an Ovechkin goal.
