The After the Winter Classic Caps Poem
(Caps Outsider)
Basking in the afterglow
Of a Winter Classsic win,
Fans flocked to Verizon Center Sunday
Anxious for the Caps game to begin.
There was no miniature reflecting pool
No tiny Capitol dome.
No singing soldiers, no fighter jets
No Fan Fest for kids to roam
There were no players wearing eye black
Karl Alzner ditched his shades
No brilliant sun to light the sky
And glisten off their blades.
But, somehow it didn’t matter
The fans were all abuzz,
Their smiles quite wide, their hopes sky high
And that’s what winning does.
The lights in the arena seemed much brighter,
Cheering fans seemed louder, too
The hot dogs seemed a bit gourmet
The beer, ultra cold, it’s true.
The Team Store was overflowing
With memorabilia flying out the door,
The bars were packed with excited fans
Toasting victory, wanting more.
