WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Washington Capitals will host a holiday party on behalf of Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation for families adopted through the Foundation’s Family-to-Family program on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 3:30 p.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.

Participants include Capitals forward Troy Brouwer and wife Carmen, defenseman John Carlson, and Kim Trotz, wife of head coach Barry Trotz.

This year 20 families were adopted through Family-to-Family, an initiative created by the Wizards 18 years ago that provides holiday cheer to underserved, deserving families in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. An additional 20 families were adopted by Caps and Wizards players and MSE staff members.

In addition to being able to skate at the Capitals practice facility, families will be able to play street hockey and interact with Santa, Capitals mascot Slapshot and Red Rockers. A DJ, face painter and balloon artist will also provide entertainment for the children. Presents for families to unwrap in celebration of holidays later this month will also be distributed.

The gifts were purchased in November when Capitals and Wizards better halves and Mystics players Taylor Hill and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt partnered on a holiday shopping spree at Walmart to benefit the nearly 100 adults and children involved in this year’s program. Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation provided nearly $20,000 for the presents.

The party marks the fourth year that MSE sports teams have collaborated on the Family-to-Family program, which allows the Capitals, Mystics and Wizards to “adopt” families in need who are nominated by local schools and nonprofit organizations. The Wizards delivered presents to a number of the families on Dec. 17.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation supports the charitable efforts of the professional teams under its umbrella: the Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards. MSE Foundation is committed to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and focuses on the following five pillars to maximize its impact and engagement with the community: youth basketball and hockey, education and scholarship, pediatric health and fitness, military and veterans’ affairs and hunger and homelessness.
