Protesters Peaceful But Scare Fans From Caps Game
(Caps Outsider)
Saturday night was supposed to be a fun evening for Meezan Hassan Ford of Columbia, MD. She and her husband don’t get to attend a lot of Caps’ games but they had purchased two tickets to see the Caps play the Lightning, and they were really looking forward to it. When they tried to approach the Verizon Center they were met by a massive protest on 7th Street that she found very disturbing.
“I was really scared,” said Ford. “There were a lot of people. Some of them were wearing masks and I just didn’t feel safe. We turned around and went home.”
According to a Metropolitian police spokesperson, the protesters were at the Verizon Center and in many other parts of the Nation’s Capital today to continue to raise awareness regarding the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner by police officers who were not indicted in either incident. “No one is in danger here,” the officer said. “The protesters were peaceful, and there are police here that you don’t even know are police.”
As a precaution, the police continued to line police vehicles end-to-end in front of Verizon Center to make their presence known during the game.
Here are some of the scenes outside Verizon Center at various points of the evening. Also check out these images from last night.
