Hershey Bears’ Late Movember Surge

For those of you who have been checking in on the “Movembears” page, you haven’t seen much worth talking about. With only five members, those being Garret Mitchell, Chris Brown, Joel Broda, Erik Burgdoefer, and Tomas Kundratek, along with only $650 raised for the cause, it looked like it was going to be one of the worst Movember efforts put forth by the Bears in quite some time. However, the Bears had something up their sleeves – actually their jerseys – that would help them reach quite an astounding mark.

This past Sunday, when the Hershey Bears took on the St. John’s IceCaps, every Bears player took to the ice wearing a Movember themed jersey. Sadly this game ended with a 2-0 St. John’s win, but after the game fans took to the auction tables to bid for these unique jerseys. A few days later the counts were in and after the bidding was over and 35 jerseys had been sold, Bears reporter Tim Leone announced that the auction had brought in an amazing $22,900. Its unknown if this money will go directly to the Movember donations but what we can confirm is that some will be given to Hershey Bears charities, according to David Sottile. But hopefully we’ll see that donation number climb on the Bears Movember page in the final days of this wonderful month.

Here are some of the prices the jerseys went for at auction:

  • Michal Cajovsky – $600
  • Chris Connor – $600
  • Chandler Stephenson – $650
  • Jon Landry – $650
  • Phoenix Copley – $800
  • Kris Newbury – $900
  • Steve Oleksy – $900
  • Philipp Grubauer – $900
  • Garrett Mitchell – $1000
