Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his 40th goal of the season on Thursday, the sixth time in his career he’s accomplished this. It’s also the first time since 2009-2010 when he hit the milestone, while going three years with ‘only’ 30-something goals.

Let’s also note that twice this season, Ovechkin was originally credited with goals, only to be given to reviewed and given to a teammate after the NHL updated its stats. This last happened Jan. 31 in a loss to the Red Wings when Ovechkin took a slap shot that went in, but eventually was credited to Joel Ward.

Congratulations, Ovechkin, on your 40th goal of the season. Here’s hoping for 30 more after the Olympics.
