Ovechkin’s Sochi 2014 Torch and Relay Outfit

Photos by Caps Outsider

In case you couldn’t attend the game on Thursday, the Caps had a display case featuring Alex Ovechkin’s outfit and torch he carried in Greece this past weekend to start off the 2014 Sochi relay.

And why not? As The Post’s Sarah Kogod said: “The National Museum of American History is closed because of the shutdown, so I was worried that there would be no place to display Alex Ovechkin’s torch and relay outfit. But this announcement from the Caps came to much relief.”

From the Caps:

The Sochi 2014 Torch and official outfit worn by Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin during his portion of the Sochi 2014 Torch relay will be on display at Verizon Center (outside of Section 104) during the Washington Capitals home opener against the Calgary Flames on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Ovechkin recently traveled to Olympia, Greece to participate in the Sochi 2014 Torch lighting ceremony and relay. He was the first Russian to carry the Sochi 2014 Torch upon ignition at the Torch lighting ceremony.

The Sochi 2014 Torch relay will consist of a 132-day journey from Olympia, Greece to Sochi, Russia, traveling through all 83 regions of Russia and covering approximately 65,000 kilometers.
