Why We Love Karl Alzner

Fans found themselves a bit depressed recently when the Caps had to part ways with Matt Hendricks. Now the good news: The Caps re-signed defenseman Karl Alzner to a four-year deal worth a very reasonable $11.2 million.

Alzner is one of the good guys – a very hard-working player, solid on the blue line, says the right thing after games and is an outright likable person. He participates in charities, including Movember during the lockout. He’s played Words With Friends with fans and shows off hilarious pictures of his dogs. While these all sound like simple things that any athlete can do, few players do it so… likably. Even when Alzner deleted his Twitter account after some unfortunate lockout-related nonsense, he kept up the same fan-friendly behavior he’s known for off the ice and now he’s resurrected his account.

Now he’s back for a good four more years. Aside from continuing his solid play, I’d venture to say fans want one more thing out of him. More of this:

Let’s hear it for four more years of Alzner!
