Capitals Begin Selling 2013 Courage Caps Merchandise
Courage Caps are the yearly team-issued hats and t-shirts that benefit military charities. This year, 100% of the proceeds will benefit Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and the merchandise has been sponsored by SKYDEX Technologies. The hats and t-shirts go on sale today at Verizon Center, and are quite the popular items.
Both the hats and t-shirts are sold for $20, and are also available online and at Kettler if you can’t get out to the arena. Special for today’s launch event are autographed versions which are offered in limited quantities behind section 103.
For $60 fans can purchase a Courage Cap or T-shirt signed by Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green or Alex Ovechkin; for $40 fans can purchase a Courage Cap or T-shirt signed by any other individual Capitals player. Fans will be able to order hats or T-shirts signed by any rostered player online.
To launch the 2013 Courage Caps campaign, on March 3rd the team hosted a skating part at Kettler for children and adults assisted by the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors :
Since the initiative began in 2007, the Courage Caps campaign has set a new record each year, raising a total of nearly $322,000 through the sale of nearly 8,000 Courage Caps in five years and more than 3,000 Courage T-shirts in three years.
