The Streak is Broken! The Streak is Broken!

In the looming shadow of Superbowl XLVI, and on the tail end of a 6 losses in 7 games collection, today’s game in Hershey had the potential to go one of two ways.  Yet another disheartening loss to the Bears’ division rivals at home, or a dramatic and triumphant breaking of a 9-game home losing streak that stretched back to October 30, 2010.  I’ll leave it up to the reader to infer tonight’s results from the post title and above image (OK, fine – Ryan Potulny scored the Game Winning Goal in the fourth round of a shootout, pushing the game’s final score to 4-3.  Oh, and DJ King got an assist (and the world didn’t end!).  Happy, now?).

Due to a surplus of material on Capitals Outsider tonight, a full game breakdown will be going up much later in the evening (Link Here).  For now, just know that the Hershey Bears are breathing a bit easier tonight (even Kevin Marshall, who’s still down at least two teeth from yesterday’s shot-block-and-bleed maneuver).

Em is a fan of hockey first and individual teams second, with geographical ties that cross the NHL. She was born in the Midwest, raised along the East Coast, and graduated from a university in Western Canada. A firm believer in context above all else, and a card-carrying on-ice official with USA Hockey, she splits her time between the big picture and the details. When not covering the AHL and ECHL for Caps Outsider, her photography can be found on Behance and Flickr. She also occasionally chimes in about the Hershey Bears on the Power Play Post Show.
