NHL Stuff That Never Got Made… But Should Have

AUTHOR: | IN: Stuff | COMMENTS: None Yet

We here at Capitals Outsider have taken the pleasure (and sometimes the pain) of showing you some great (and some outright horrendous) Caps and general hockey schwag that we come across. There has definitely been the good, the bad, and the outright ugly. But we all know that not every idea that gets pitched to a marketing department actually gets produced. So how bad could those products possibly be? Well, I decided to do some research and I found a few that never quite made the grade. (To keep these in perspective, there IS an Anaheim Ducks Rubber Duckie)

A Cacophony of Headlines: Caps Win Fifth Straight

AUTHOR: | IN: Recap | COMMENTS: None Yet

First thing’s first: Matt Bradley and Alexander Semin hugged it out and are BFFLs again, and Semin wants everyone to shut up about it. “I’m tired of answering the same questions,” said Semin through a translator. And indeed, there was much more to the Washington Capitals’ 3-0 victory over the Florida Panthers. It was the fifth straight win for the team, making them undefeated so far this season. That sets a record for the franchise, which has achieved 4-0 starts in only three of its 37 years. It’s a good sign for the team, but Bruce Boudreau knows it’s not [...]

How Will Caps Fans Greet Bradley?

AUTHOR: | IN: Preview | COMMENTS: None Yet

Matt Bradley was well-liked during his stay in Washington. He played with grit but kept his class. He stood up for teammates and bled worse than Jay Beagle ever could. Then he went to Florida, did a radio interview where he said Alex Semin could be one of the best players in the league but ‘doesn’t care.’ Other former Caps even agreed. The Caps came out supported Semin and Semin himself started doing English interviews. Regardless, especially now that Bradley has publicly apologized for his statements, how will Caps fans welcome him back to Verizon Center when the Panthers face [...]

Minimalist Caps Tattoo

AUTHOR: | IN: Stuff | COMMENTS: None Yet

Capitals Overtime stumbled upon a cool site that made graphics of minimalist NHL logos, on sixsix8.com. Soon after, we met a twitter follower, Amanda Saner of Virginia Beach, who has something very similar on her wrist. Sure, she’s no Caps Tattoo Guy, but at this point we’ve committed ourselves to posting every last Capitals tattoo that anyone has, ever. If you got it, tweet it to us.

The Problem With Streaking…

AUTHOR: | IN: Hershey Bears, Stingrays | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last night, all three layers of the Capitals system saw their start-of-season streaks stagger to a halt.  We knew that all those Ws were too good to last, but it’s still worth taking a few moments to examine the various shakeups (even the good one).  Fair Warning: Because I’ll be following the minor leagues for Capitals Outsider this season, expect a bit more AHL and ECHL coverage than you’re used to in these parts. The Good: For the Capitals, the “end” was a positive one.  The Caps saw a win in regulation against Ottawa, finally breaking the wins-in-overtime run they’ve [...]

Happy Birthday, Jay Beagle!

AUTHOR: | IN: Birthday | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jay Beagle, of Calgary, is 26 today. Let’s wish him a happy birthday by reliving his best moment as a Cap. And let’s remember that despite making a fool of himself by fighting Arron Asham the other day, he did it for the team. And that’s a good thing.

Caps Avoid OT Despite Sloppy Play

AUTHOR: | IN: Recap | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s the fourth game of an 82-game season, and the Capitals know it. Saturday’s match against the Ottawa Senators was sloppy by all accounts, but the Caps managed to hold onto a 2-1 lead and avoid a fourth straight overtime. At the end of the first period, one Senators fan called the game “seven-year-old hockey,” and at the of the second, Jamison Ernst, a Baltimore Capitals fan said it looked like the team was coasting into the playoffs four games in. Put into official team language, the Caps were happy to win, but acknowledged that it wasn’t their best play. [...]

Caps vs. Senators Game Day Practice Notes

AUTHOR: | IN: Preview | COMMENTS: None Yet

As you’re on your way to the game, or before you settle down for a good two hours of hockey, here are some notes about tonight’s matchup. Michal Neuvirth is still not ready to play. While he practiced for awhile after the majority of the team left the ice, Danny Sabourin will be backing up Tomas Vokoun tonight. Speaking of Sabourin, apparently goalie skills run strong. He was seen dropping the cap from his water bottle and using a kick save to keep it from rolling away. Mathieu Perreault and John Erskine were the last ones on the ice. Literally, the last ones, [...]
