Mike Xtremist’s Xtreme Video Game Review: NHL 12

For the first time since September 2009, I get to do what I originally loved to do, and that’s reviewing video games. And what better game to come back and review than NHL 12 for Playstation 3 (PS3) and XBOX 360 (360) by EA Sports?

This franchise has been going on for 20 years now, and over the years it has had it’s up and downs, more recently on the up. Since NHL ’08 came out back in September 2007, the franchise has won numerous Sports Game of the year awards, and NHL 12 likely will, too.

With an all new Full Contact Physics Engine, the aggression of the game is at an all time high. Also, for the first time in years, you can put your opponent through the glass!

Also making a return to the franchise is goalie fights, but now the goalies can also fight the other players – not just each other.

New to NHL 12 is the new variations of Be a Pro mode. Instead of just playing the prospects game and then going through the draft process, or starting with your favorite team, you can now start off by playing in the CHL for an entire season to build up your attributes before going into the NHL Draft.

It gets better. Now, you can play as Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemiuex, Steve Yzerman, Patrick Roy, Chris Chelios, Ray Bourque, Jeremy Roenick, Gordie Howe, and Borje Salming. And also new is the NHL Winter Classic.

Overall NHL 12 is an amazing game, and is one of the best sports games along with EA Sports’ FIFA franchise, and thus gets a 4.5 out of 5.
